Who is this guy?Dan Becker Portfolio Manager of Waddell & Reed's Advisor Vanguard Fund
How long has he been at his job? He's been at Waddell & Reed for 11 years and took over as portfolio manager on this fund in mid-1997.
How has the fund performed?Year-to-date through Aug. 8, when this interview was conducted, the fund was up nearly 15 percent. In 1999, the fund's total return was 43.9 percent; in 1998, it was up 31.2 percent; and in 1997, up 19.6 percent. The fund's year-to-date total through Dec. 15, 2000, was 0.2 percent.
Anything interesting about him? Absolutely. He's loyal, for openers as he has been with Waddell & Reed ever since he got out of college. "It's my first and only job out of school, " says Becker. Plus, he's the proud father of two little girls and when I spoke with him in late summer, was awaiting the arrival of another little one.
When was the interview conducted?Aug. 8, 2000
